Nashville Christian Counselor, Margaret PhilipsMargaret Phillips received a bachelor of science degree from David Lipscomb University in psychology and a master of science degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in clinical psychology. She served an internship at the L.I.F.E. program at Osprey, Florida working with individuals in treatment for drug addiction. Immediately following graduate school she completed a summer intensive at the Institute for Family Studies in Atlanta, Georgia. She then completed the requirements for a certificate of competency at the Family and Group Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy in Sarasota, Florida. There she received 2 years of specific training in strategic, structural, and inter-generational family systems therapy. She began private practice in Bradenton, Florida and was a Florida licensed Marital and Family Therapist as well as a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1990 and is a Tennessee licensed Marital and Family Therapist as well as a continued clinical member of AAMFT.

She served on the board of the Nashville Area Association of Christian Counselors in many different capacities from it’s inception, assistant director for 3 years and the director for 3 years.

She continues her private practice, writes and speaks and enjoys facilitating group therapy. She is a low-ropes instructor and enjoys facilitating ropes activities for groups and couple-groups in outdoor adventure settings.

On a personal note, she and her husband of more than 40 years, served on the mission field in West Africa for 4 years. She and her husband, Gary, have 3 married sons and 12 grandchildren. She and her husband enjoy travel, camping, biking, and hiking. They have been members of Belmont Church since 1990 and have been involved in couples ministry there in different capacities.

I believe in the Holy Trinity and the Holy Bible as my ultimate authority. I desire to see God’s people walking in faithfulness and wholeness, able to give and receive love and hope. I commit to serve in my capacity in the awareness of my own humanity and give honor to God as the healer.
